Explore 2 completely different archeological sites. See the Roman civilization brought back to life after the unexpected tragedy in 79 A.D. burying the city in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Walk the paths viewing modest dwellings to the once elegant residences of the noble class adorned with mosaics, merchant workshops, temples, and the ‘Lupanare” the infamous brothel with ancient erotic paintings, thermal baths and the oldest amphitheater known dating back to 80 B.C., and holding up to 12,000 spectators for performances and gladiatorial games.

Visit Herculaneum/Ercolano, a smaller and well-preserved site experienced a different devastating blast from Mt. Vesuvio. Being the richer of the two cities, the artifacts that remain here – such as lavish mosaics – tell perhaps more vivid stories about the nobles and citizens.
