How to get to Amalfi Coast, Positano and Sorrento
The never ending question with many possibilities. Instagrammers have painted a pretty picture for you when you get here. It’s the getting here that can be a bit daunting…traffic, narrow roads, lots of stairs, no parking and everything takes longer than you think. Patience, planning and pack light! It is beautiful and worth the trek.
FLY:
There are many international flights into (NAP) Naples International Airport, aka Naples Capodachino and the new (QSR) Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport (13 miles south of Salerno and 28 miles to the town of Amalfi) featuring low-cost carriers like Easyjet, Volotea, Ryanair and other carriers.
From Naples airport you can take the Curreri shuttle bus (my preferred way), just exit baggage claim, walk down the only street about 3 minutes and on the right side is a parking lot. You can buy the tickets online or pay €10 cash to the driver- depending on availability. Usually takes 1 hour and 15-30 minutes depending on traffic. It also make stops all along the Sorrento peninsula, ie. Pompeii, Vico Equense, Piano di Sorrento and Sant’ Agnello.
Curreri Viaggi time table – scroll to the bottom of website and open the pdf – it’s easiest.
Positano Shuttle bus service from Naples train station, Naples airport (from €28) and Rome Termini station, Ciampino or Fiumicino airport directly to your hotel, villa or B&B in Positano or Praiano.

If arriving by the fast trains to Napoli Centrale station- the upper level of the building, you can walk downstairs to the lower level- aka Piazza Garibaldi and take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and making many stops to most of the towns along the peninsula, approximate time is 1 hour and 10 minutes, currently €3.60 each way from Naples to Sorrento. The Express train 50 min, fewer stops and costs more, €15 one-way or €25 roundtrip. You can buy tickets at the station or tabacciao (tobacco shops) Check varying times from weekdays, weekends and holidays.
